I'm a little in awe of what you just wrote.
In my opinion the world always wants to bring down those who stand out. The nice or good person is a target for hurtful words and actions. Others will try to bring you down to their level. If you let them get at you, and if you let them turn you upside down and into a completely different direction than where you were heading before... than yes you failed. You failed yourself. But everyone of us has. It is part of being human to be untrue to what we are at times, sometimes most of the time. I don't mean to be rambling though--sorry
I was very touched by your work, I've been there.
