And speaking of children ...
If we convince our children that they are safe, because it is entirely up to us to see to it that they are, then I think we will reap the rewards of our consoling. When others come along and attempt to put irrational fears in our minds, it is important not to pass them along to the children. The children cannot do anything about it, and fear is only healthy if a person is empowered to take action in any circumstance.

I think the reason people exagerate fears is
that they have been taught to fear all sorts of things of which they have no first hand knowledge, just as children are afraid of monsters in the dark after hearing a few ghost stories
