Re: BC-A
Thanks! They say that the Italian mothers never cut the umbilical cord, but boy oh boy, our South African mothers are ten times worse! Especially when a lady comes between a mother and her son! That's why I'm conditioning myself now already for the time when my son marries. I don't want to repeat my mother in-laws mistakes!

Re: KaBoom62
That's what's bothering me most! Each time I open my heart to her, she just stabs another knife in my heart! I never thought I was capable of hate, but that's exactly how I feel. And God knows, I do try to like her, even love her. But I don't think I can survive another heart break. Though the Bible tells us we must forgive 70x7. But it sure is easier said than done!

Re: Sinome
Thanks for your comment. Yes, I have thought about being a mother-inlaw myself one day and therefore I am grateful to have a perfect example of how I should not become!

Very forceful poem.  I empathize with you, having had the same troubles once, but let me tell you what I learned : eventually, all frogs go to their own pads, so don't make your life a yogurt trying to appease those who croak too much, just get used to the symphony and one day they will go away. The  "Thanks"...hmmm that I doubt you will ever get that, but that is OK,  she gave you your husband already, that is her gift to you, and remember if  you ever have a son, one day, you will be a mother in law as well, so learn from her mistakes.. Enjoy your husband and child and take care of you.  :-)

You are right to take control of our house. I might add you have done it with great dignity. sam

Mother-in-law
situations are unniversal!! I can relate, dear Oos,  I know there are good ones, but you and me got ourselves stuck with bad ones!!  I can so relate!  How can I love my husband so, yet hate his mother so??  Hate is a strong word but it is the truth!  Mine is dead and the guilt I feel for not having loved her still surfaces at times.  I do not hate a dead person and I forgive her everything so I am at peace, but.... it takes time to deal with ones feelings.

Have you ever heard the American expression as American as apple pie. Love, many Americans identify with you. And, I'm sure that many married people in all nations identify with you. I'm sorry to say that I'm single. So, I don't have a mother-in-law. But like I say, I find very interesting that the mother-in-law situation exists in your location. Thank you for sharing. I hope that your mother-in-law will understand and appreciate you more. God bless you, love.
