I never said Mary wasn't
A virgin when she was pregnant with Christ. That is not what I was talking about.
I have talked with people who for some reason claim that Mary remained a virgin her whole life. They seem to think it would be some kind of sin for her to have slept with her husband. I have never figured out where they got that from.
It is the type of thing that has always added to my belief that many of the people who walk around claiming to be strong believers, really have no idea what they are talking about and are led by what the church tells them and only that.
This does not seem to be one of the stronger beliefs out there, it is just one that really bothers me.

strange as it is for myself as an atheist to be defending Chrisitianity, there is no reason to believe (from the religious
perspective - which neither I nor yourself share) that Mary was a not virgin when she conceived Jesus, even though Jesus did in fact have siblings (one of the gospels even mentions it - I forget which one). The fact that an immaculate conception is a biological impossibility is no reason for the Christian to dismiss it - that is why they regard it as a miracle. The fact is, a miracle is, by
definition, a physical and scientific impossibility - that is why it is called a miracle. Neither science or history or sociology can prove or disprove a miracle. Miracles are by definition, outside of the scope of science or empirical evidence. That is of course no reason to believe in miracles - but then, it is also no reason to doubt them. It is simply a matter of faith.

Read the De Vinci Code
It talks about how Jesus and Mary Magdalene were married. It deals with a lot of ideas like that. A very good read that really gets you thinking.

hilarious. i suppose though. there was that lady in the NYT magazine a couple weeks ago who said "Mary Magdalene was Jesus' girlfriend." all kinds of amazing things happening every moment.
