Zoe

I have never given much thought to how it 'works', since I really don't care. I suspect, though, that rankings depend on the number of clicks, not the number of comments, and the former may be considerably higher than the latter.

Using myself as an example, I read a fair bit of poetry here, and enjoy most of it, but I find it difficult to comment, because to do so well would require more thought and effort than I have time for.  And I find it almost impossible to deliver myself of the trite 'nice post' or 'nice poem.' As a result, I often read and leave no comment at all. I have sometimes left a rose and a smile for some poets to whom I explained why. I guess in future that will have to take the form of a calling card...

By the way, welcome to Blogit...

Oh dear, I have no clue.  I'm just a writer.  I cannot help you here but, I enjoy reading your writings, your poetry, prose.  Write On! and best regards on gathering information. I actually cannot remember how I stumbled onto this site...however, I've enjoyed my experience so far...~Elyse

As I gather, Top blogs are calculated over the last 7 days and Most read today are how often people have clicked you for today only. Comments you get are clues as to who visited you. Read and leave comments so as to attract readers to your blog. It doesn't make sense writing and not having it read! Hope this helped!!

I don't understand it and I'm not bothered anyway really! I se something I
like--so I read it--I leave a comment-not to get a 'return' of any description-but because it is how I feel-at that moment of reading! I write-because that is what I want to do-simply write-then if someone 'chooses' to read it-that's terrific and it's great when comments are left for me-it 'guides' me for further writings! However-these are individuals 'choices' to make! I really don't see how influence is bought to bare-apart from te individual's choice! (does that make sense? I hope so) Just enjoy yourself here without worrying who's doing what and why! God bless.Chris.

It is actually a bit better than MySpace
where people can get hundreds of comments and thousands of visitors for no apparent reason, except maybe sexual interest, while others of significant merit are ignored.

However, a common thread emerges.  People with the time and energy to read and comment everywhere get a ton of people visiting and leaving comments.  The proportion of comments to visitors can vary somewhat.  I believe the popularity is based solely on visitors, but I may be wrong.  The incentive to leave comments where you go is that, then, people know that you have visited, both the person you are visiting and anyone else who reads your comment, and they might then visit you.

One thing I do know is that what you are paid IS based on visitors and how much of a share of those visitors' reading effort the visit to you was.

BTW, the top spot in Poetry has changed in recent months.  As I recall Troosha held top honors for a very long time.

Welcome to Blogit and I hope you have fun here.
