Families
It is very disappointing when family members don't behave the way they should. I think it would be worthwhile to find a way to let them know you were sad not to hear from them on your day.

I am sorry I didn't see this yesterday. Happy belated birthday and I am sorry so many are so inconsiderate. When that happens to me and it is their turn to be elated I just remind that I am doing what they did for me. sam

It is about expectations. That's what gets to you. Not that you shouldn't have them but recognize that the disappointment is the expectations not met.
