Comments on BN Contest is an uncivilized pitbull loosed into a dog lovers' neighborhood

And another funny thing.

Realizing that posting BN pertinent content was not for me or at least something I did not want to do to any great extent I made a conscious decision to just do my own thing here. At the time one of my blogs was number 5 in the rankings while the others were all in the top 100. That's the last I have seen of those lofty positons. What was more diconcerting though is that just this weekend I had Untoldone review one of my stories for me ( very helpful and strongly recommended but small fee applies ). His written list of suggestions made one thing painfully clear. All of the points he made were right on the money in terms of how to improve the writing in general but most of said points were things that had crept into my writing by making it suitable for posting here. Leaving out important story developing detail etc just to keep stories to a readable length for this site. In summary my time here has had the subtle affect of having blogging habits creeping into my writing.

Not a complaint but merely an observation.

One would have to think that Shaycom would re-think future contests if any.

Taking nothing away from Chris or Ariala this was a contest that few had a chance of winning. Ariala at number one had the biggest advantage from a position of defence while Chris was the only other blogger with a chance to unseat her from the outset. Others have given it a valiant try but the days of the month simply ticked away before they could gain enough momentum. The funny thing in all of this is that this particular blog may turn out to be your most popular and what is the content subject matter? I only point this out to bring up another prediction ( I'm 0 for 10,000 so don't give it too much credence ). If nothing else this contest has shown us conclusively that BN content or subject matter pertinant only to this site and it's members is usualy the most popular. The aftermath of this may be that it is solidified as a trend ( it always took place to a certain extent ) or a mindset hard to break for those who want to rise or stay in the top of the rankings. So in effect the contest will have done it's damage for more than just the month of October. Blowed this site up real good.

dreah, I hadn't thought of your slant on this. I agree that popularity is a bad choice.

BENZ...

They had no choice... in my opinion...

in the aftermath of the crabby, DOH, and other bannings.. shaycom needed

something to distract from the sense of loss on BN and so (in a very Clintonesque fashion)

diverted our attention to the contest.

I actually hope the contests will continue.. but on the basis of popularity?... bad idea!

benzinha ...thanks for the pointer here
I promise you that I have not been afflicted by this pitbull attacking me personally but I think I have seen signs of it in others. I think Cynthia identified correctly about something that happens when you rise through the ranks. My topblog is about blogging nonsenses but is also meant to poke fun at human nature. I think sometimes that being here is like being in a schoolyard.

WIP

has never been a huge contributor.  He writes on inspiration.  If nothing inspires him, he'd just as soon play with his dog.  As I recall, he was also in the process of setting up his own practice.  I am sure that is tying up quite a bit of his time.

But, I agree, he is one of the best on here.

scoop, I have finally found the reason for the BN October Contest and have posted it
for the general safety and well being of bloggers here...I do still find my fabulous writers in the Back Pages and lower numbered blogs here and I still read them.
