Where I'm from, Wild Grace, we eat groundhogs. So, whether they see their
shadow or not is rather irrelevant.  I think groundhog day must be an offshoot of the old Beltaine celebrations.  Or it could be native American... Doesn't matter; those little bastards are no better at it than those morons on the 6 o'clock news with all their meteorological shadow watchers...

Ground Hog Day
I didn't read about it, but I have friends born on February the Second, and one said that the groundhog did not see his shadow. She poo pooed the more weeks of winter notion. She thinks there's always an exception every rule. Do you know the history of this bizarre holiday? Most of the U.S. holidays honor great men or commemorate something patriotic with the exception of Easter, Christmas, and Halloween. The Easter Bunny doesn't exist, and I bet there are people who don't believe Christ existed, and many don't believe ghosts exist. But you can count on that a groundhog exist. I bet groundhogs got it rough this time of the year. Let them be for goodness sakes. I would be annoyed if reporters were rushing to see if I saw my shadow each year. If I were a groundhog I'd gnaw their little ankles off.

Well...
It's eternal winter for the 'possum.  Around here, there is too much snow for the groundhog to get out, much less see anything.  So much snow in fact, it will be six weeks before it all melts...hmmm.

Saul
Like you, I also missed the results of Groundhog Day this year. Of course, in this country it ain't Punxatawney (had to think about that spelling) Phil, but Wiarton Willie, much easier to spell, lol! And I have no idea what a possum with its legs in the air signifies! Maybe we should think about and start a new tradition...
