I have cooked in similar fashion many times when camping out, four-wheeling mountain passes, or white water rafting trips. A cast-iron pot and some hot coals can work wonders and make anyone watch the proceedings hungrily. I don't know much about Jamaican foods but my favorites were always chili and beans, Mulligan stew, and baking hot biscuits.
