Re: I'm not "insulted", just amazed at our arrogance.

You say you are not insulted and yet your tone suggests that somehow, no matter what I say you seem to think that I am arrogant to be excited about what I have read. I feel for anyone who is being oppressed and downtrodden. And if I can't do the best with my life how can I hope to help others?

I obviously cannot say anything to make this discussion better. And it is insulting to believe that you think that I would just tell these women to think positive thoughts. I am not arrogant enough to think that I have any answers that would help the situation in Darfur.

But I can try to better myself as a person in the hopes that someday I might be able to contribute something... ideas, money or simply my ability to convince others to listen and respond...

I'm not "insulted", just amazed at our arrogance.

Maybe we should send copies of "The Secret" to India. If they could only think positive thoughts.......

You seem rather insulted

And I am sorry for that. And maybe I can agree that it seems unfair to put that sort of thinking to situations like Darfur, but let me present this in a different way. People who would harm others, rape them, beat them, kill them are more attracted to those who appear helpless and afraid. Those who would do these hideous things can smell fear and while I would never suggest that the victims intentionally brought it on themselves I do believe that the situation they are in was atttracted to them because of the naturally understood fear their abusers feed on. It is unfair. But the law of attraction does not discern right from wrong, as unfair as that seems. It only attracts to you what you are feeling and thinking.

I wish that were different.

I know Oprah was promoting this book and ideology. Personally, I find it offensive to suggest that people who have pain in their lives are somehow attracting it with their thoughts. Darfur rape victims, children who are molested or starving Africans did not ask for it. To suggest that their "incorrect thinking" is the cause of their pain just doesn't seem right. Positive thoughts may help you endure pain, and help you find meaning in it, but it will not end random violence, illness and war.
