Azur

Being present is a necessity.   Commenting is very time consuming, and I tend to worry if I haven't left a comment on a favourite's post.  The post itself is easy enough, because it is writing and editing itself in your subconscious.  One of the reasons I don't post as much as I used to is because it takes me so long to read and comment.

I used to think that editormum was rude when she didn't comment on a comment, or even comment on another post, but now I understand - all she wants to do is write.   You, Pat-B and Whacky have the right idea of not answering comments, but reading the commenter's post and leaving a remark there.

Blogging takes time

that's for sure. But it's become a big part of my writing regime. I've gotten in the habit of adding entries before I sit down to work on my books. I find the free-form writing really gets my words flowing, and usually removes any blocks that might be hiding in the recesses of my mind, waiting to jump out and stop me from getting anything productive done.

Yes, it takes time to read and comment on other people's blogs. But they're usually so well written, it's hard to resist. I find everything from laugher to heartbreak in them. Most importantly, I find inspiration, and a connection with other writers that is priceless.

It's all true. You have to write something every day to get comments.
It's got to do with our diminishing attention span. I do like a comment from readers who were paying attention, or who surprise me with a witty observation. Unfortunately, my tupperware container of witty stuff is just about empty.

I'm with you, Azur. I'm not posting as much lately, either. Writing other
things, answering e-mail, working, going to school.  Who has the time?  But I'm glad you're still around.  And you're right, reading is interacting.  I try to leave some brief statement or relative comment, but sometimes I just post a thumbs-up or a rose or something and go on. But there is the occasional few that I read and don't exactly know what to do, so all they get is a click...

I know just what ya mean...
..when I was re-writing my novel (many times over) I felt I had to bow out of blogit for a bit but it was blogit that got me writing so much to begin with.  Then I realized I missed the interaction...missed the people here...but it does take a big chunk of time to read and comment although I find I do learn from everyone here...a little bit about the writers and then about me too.  It's a win-win situation..although it's also time consuming.  It's finding that balance!  But I love reading you!

Blogging for a writer is like a runner jogging at a stop light.

Keeping the tachometer up waiting for the yellow flag to lift, so to speak.

AAAAAAAAAAAnd they're OFF!
