OK, Jo-Suzanne Fisher Staples impressed me w/ SHABANU-desert Pakistani girl
who survives landgrabbing and rape attempts/forced marriages when laned aristocrats who rule Pakistan try to dominate the hinterland (tribal and desert areas). She -shanabu - was great with camels, and tough like a SHERO daughter-wife-mother. I recall the Persimmon Tree is about Afghan refugee and post-Taliban situation.
