Turning in fraud that hurts those who really need it.....and using resources they should be getting, even to taking of processing time and effort...not to mention the money...and not to mention it's fraud that hits all of us....is absolutely the thing to do when you have no question about the facts.

I find all these comments interesting.  Anything we expect the federal government to be responsible for is going to be a buracratic nightmare - or, at least in my experience....I'd love to know one agency they run that isn't, just so I can have hope.  All those agencies need complete overhauls and constant oversight that is.....genuine.....oversight, with accountability.  But, more importantly, in my opinion....we as a people need to get back to putting a lot of the accountability back where it mainly belongs....with the people who hold the positions and accept pay to perform them!  I never.....ever.....hear anyone talk about how the employees of these agencies need to take personal responsibility for doing their jobs....it's always, "the government" this and that.......

This is one of "Judge Judy's" pet peeves.  She can yell pretty loudly at people stiffing the government. I totally agree with her opinion on that but I'm not sure whether I would turn someone in or not, I just don't know.

Offy..........................

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Good post.  There should be people whose job it is to check on these people who cheat the system.  The problem, I'm sure is getting these people off their butts to do it.  As a taxpayer, I'm appauled at anyone who would stoop so low.  People also have been known to trade their food stamps for money to buy cigarettes, etc.  If the government wants to hand out free money to people, they should also have the responsibililty to follow up and see just what these people's situations are.  So much money, and we're paying for it, that's what burns me.

Yeah it might even hurt them not to have a car...if they aren't going to work why do they need one anyway.....I've seen some welfare cases driving new cars! I am so over it.............

We aren't talking about the homeless here...there are many programs available to those who wish to get off the streets. We are talking about people who blatantly abuse the welfare system...It is not up to the government to subsidize these people's pay checks. Welfare was designed for short term and not a way of life...

Chrissy you are an example of how the system should work....Your BIL should be turned in for the abuse. I know someone who uses the system too and I have made a decision today that I will inform the proper authorities about it.....soon!

It's people like yourself who are going thru a difficult time that SHOULD receive assistance. I really hope one of those jobs calls you. I am so sorry you are going through this....I guess what I don't understand is why those who need it don't get it and those who don't do.....The whole darn thing ( the program) needs a good over haulin....

Looking at the comments here..
I wish I could get some kind of assistance with my food, but I like to hunt so I'm ok, I do get assistance for kids health care and as it stands right now, I have resumes out to eighteen places and applications in at all the bullsh** fast food and even bars, I can't get a call back from anybody! Why, I don't know so what do I do - I put an ad in the damn paper - handyman service. What else can I do? Sometimes I actually make enough for my bills other times, I'm beatin the bushes at the pawn shop to make ends meet. This month, I'm screwed! They won't help me with clothing or food stamps or anything, why - I don't know? Just my pathetic and demorilizing luck I suppose. This keeps up I won't have a house to live in!

He absolutely did the right thing, sweet one.  I have to receive food stamps in addition to my monthly governmental assistance, and let me tell you that I hate it.  I would love to work outside in the world for a living, but my body doesn't allow it.

My ex-brother-in-law defrauds the system all the time, and it makes me want to strangle the SOB.  I don't want the assistance, but have no choice.  He has a choice, yet he takes from those who are truly in need of help.

People who do these kinds of things will eventually get their jest desserts.

I do my best to not judge without knowing all the facts

and even then I hesitate because there still my be cirbumstances I am also unaware of.

The fault is in the bureauracracy behind this mess. The majority obtaining assistance in our country do need our help, but do we really help them? We present them with a system where the people who lie and cheet get more money than the honest people.

Many who come to welfare for help are also homeless, so there is a major transition in their life. I've never agreed with kicking someone off of assistance as soon as they get a job. There should be a transition period where their assitance is reduced. Everything should be done to encourage people to retake control of their own lives.

Their should be more contact with these people in the field and less of the clerks behind desks making life changing decisions based on the strict rules and their attitudes on that particular day.

I'll get down off my soap box now, I appologize for taking so much of your comment space today.

Sally

Here’s an example of a friend of mine (a number of years ago) who milked the system.
She had 3 kids and our Social Assistance program provided her with:

  • $1,200/mth income – tax free
  • $600/mth tax free for daycare (while she was supposed to be out looking for work)
  •  $100/mth clothing allowance (to look presentable at job interview)
  • $150/mth medical premium paid for
  • Free dental care________
    $2,050  Tax Free

That would be the equivalent of earning roughly $2,600/mth before tax.  Not a bad job by our standards...

Now why on earth would she even be motivated to look for work?  She wasn’t and she didn’t and I think it’s disgusting.

I do it in a heartbeat.......
I hate being in behind someone getting subsidized and seeing the food they are buying....verly little concern about getting the most bang for the buck.....expensive prepared convenience foods......nothing in bulk for home preparation.....I guess that would take them away from there TV and soap operas......
