I hope it is of some satisfaction...
As a former (and much junior) military officer, I can practically guarantee you that general just stepped on his own feet professionally. I just hope he doesn't parlay his jingoism into a personal sucess story in politics and in the popular media.
Frankly, he has dropped out of view like a rock out of a rowboat as far as I can('t) see.
