We are surprised because
even though this world is so corrupt we never expect that a parent would but a child up to something like this. We know that consenting adults do corrupt things together but it's always especially low when people corrupt children, even their own children. As a people, we do still have some conscious left, we are not totally callous, that's why it bothers us.
