I've been asking this question for decades myself. I suppose if we all accepted one another there would peace on earth and lots of love and all things wise and well. But then how would we measure good from bad, right from wrong and this is the only reason I can come up with why we all just can't be friends.

That one will only understand your feelings if he/she has a great desire to understand. If the desire is not there, the effort will be lacking. If the desire to understand is not there, one must question why and perhaps move on.
