Re: Very interesting!
bpitter2007: I didn't do any research on Hillary but she probably voted present on a few votes in the Senate too. I disagree with you. I believe it matters no matter who the candidate. You should take a stand on something one way or the other on issues. The problem with me is that you can vote ''present.'' Any politician should be forced to take a position on an issue. Voting ''present'' is a copout or cover. Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Ex Turpi: Happy holidays to you too. As a former prosecutor and expert on the law, you always take a balanced and measured approach regarding your responses to my posts. I don't always agree with some of your observations or views but I do appreciate them.

Very interesting!
Did you do the same search on how many times Hilliary voted "present". I understand she's got quite a lot of them also. Plus would Obama's vote have been the deciding vote one way or the other? If not, I don't see that it matters.
I really don't believe that's an issue of whether he would be a good President or not. But then that's just my opinion.

WavyDavy: I do not know that Mr. Obama was right on anyone of these votes. However, since he is considered to be a good constitutional lawyer, I would prefer to be conversant with the circumstances under which his votes were cast. It does show us he has a very independent streak.
He may well be wrong on ALL of those votes. The question is wrong by whose evaluation or standards. We probably need to know what the cases and the laws in Illinois provide; what were the positions taken, and facts exposed, in the debating of the bill.
Indeed, all politicians make tactical votes; all politicians ofttimes vote to satisfy their party; all politicians vote to embarrass the other party. Are these approaches laudatory? Of course not. But, that is our system; and it has worked over the years.
Happy Holidays, my dear man.
