Re: Sally, I love fruitcake...................
huh.......I wonder why I think fruitcake is good?   I remember the first time I had fruitcake as a little girl and I really liked it.  My father told me it was candied fruit and I was impressed.   LOL      Oh well, I'll eat most any type of food, ask my children, although MaggieMae and Sally, you can have all my lifetime allotment of asparagus.

ST.....depends on the cake
Mama makes a white fruit cake.......it's a butter-rich white cake, mainly full of pecans but does have the pineapple and cherries traditional to fruitcakes....but there is more like a heavy pound cake taste with nuts, butter, vanilla being primary and then the fruits come in as an occasional surprise.  I'm making it a mission this year to learn how to make it as it's a tradition we want to keep in our family and everyone who has ever tasted it has loved it.  I don't like the gooey brown ones either.

I just remembered an old discription of a person."Nutty as a fruitcake!"
Offy, does anyone know what that gummy, greasy GREEN thing in fruitcakes is? It is AWFUL! Oppossums would turn their prominent snozzes up at these grotesque ingredients! I love Dark brown date nut bread, add bananas and you really have a succulent taste treat. Whoever concocted Fruit cake just took the whole thing about five steps too far. Adding brandy to banana-date-nut cake is possibly an inspired innovation but for god's sake stop there, while you're ahead! Whatdaya think?   Guy

Sally
Before I got to the end of your post I was already thinking "She should re-gift it"  LOL   I can't stand fruit cakes either and in Canada it's also traditional to use them for wedding cakes with a marzipan icing.  I'm sure you'll think of someone that will be the lucky recipient of your fruit cake.....

Good Morning, Offy hon
Why waste a good thing? I'm sure your squirrels would like it, they eat almost anything! If not the squirrels, have a chat the the raccoons! And if they refuse it, you can always send it to China - they definitely eat anything!

My step Mom sent it...YUCK! Hey you meant I could fix that hole in the wall with it? Dang, I wonder if I have to pick out those red thingys inside before I do it? Nah, I could just paint over it!!! Better yet, I'll just paint the fruitcake! LOL

Offy, people actually still give that away? I hear it makes good patching
for holes in walls.
