One of my aunts has been trying to trace our roots on my maternal grandmother's side of the family. She has found many interesting tales. My favorite (and the one which shames me the most) is one in which one family had a daughter named Mary. I guess these relatives were fairly well-to-do and didn't want their daughter Mary to marry "beneath" her. But Mary fell in love with their farmhand and they ran away to elope. When Mary's parents found out, they disowned her and, in their minds from that point on, she was either dead or had never even existed. The next female child the mother gave birth to they named Mary--to even further shame the original Mary.
Personally, I tip my hat to the original Mary for following her heart.

I love delving into genealogy. It's fascinating and can teach you things about yourself. (I found out I almost positively do have Native American ancestry, suspected it for years but never knew for sure.) It is time consuming and can get expensive, but worth it. Thanks for reading my poems (you didn't read all of them did you? LOL, just joking) There were many comments, but at the request of a certain blogger I deleted those - I hope! Laughing again. I refused to delete the poems because I kind of liked knowing they were there. Strange, huh? I too love your blog. Such meaningful verses in an artistic setting. Nice! I won't leave you a rose or "kind sir" this time, LOL, just
