Your lovely photo reminds me of the
sheltered little valley in the foothills of the Cascades where I grew up. In the morning, we'd pop out of bed at the last minute, dress, swallow a bit of oatmeal, grab a piece of toast and run the half mile to the school bus. But for the walk home after school we could take a good long look at the houses along the street framed by curve of a hill, the line of brilliant vine maples, then Douglas firs up to the crest. It's what I remember about October.
