Re: Spitfire
You know, he's seen Schindler's list and many other movies about WWII with Eddie (he's a history and war buff), so I thought he'd get it already. I asked him if he has seen any documentaries on it and he hadn't. I actually tried Roots, too, it aired recently. I can't get him to make the bridge between reality and fantasy (i.e. the movie). I am looking for some documentaries about the KKK, the Aryan Brotherhood, and some things I think he'll watch and understand better with real people in them. One of his best friends is black/filipina and I think the boys just have fun with stereotypes -- it doesn't help that Hitler is a regular character on "South Park." Confusing for them. I'll just have to keep talking to him and monitoring things.

Re: Doggie! I've missed you.
Yeah, sometimes I feel like I'm walking through a mine field. What I
never knew about parenting, I mean really knew and understood, is how
hard it is to make the tough decisions and the right decisions and how
much it hurts when he's mad at me if he doesn't like it. I'm the only
one for the job right now though and one day it will be worth it, and
he will understand. I hate the heat, and usually he comes around... but I also get all the props, too, so that's awesome. :) Hugs! xo

Here's another suggestion...
Force Isaac to watch Schindler's List and Roots. Maybe then you will be more assured that he "gets" it.

I don't envy you the task of trying to point kids in the right direction these days. I used to think that I had a lot of harmful distractions when I was young; I can't imagine what it is like nowadays.
Be vigilant,

Re: Spitfire
They have an option to report abuse, a link at the bottom of the page, but I had already deleted the boy from MY page, so I would have had to report him through Isaac's -- which meant they would email him about it, or his friend may find out ... I didn't want his friends to be mad at him. When he found out I was upset, the boy took the swastikas down (from his page and name), but not the comments of the other friend. He's the one, the one with the page, who really likes that stuff and is racist -- so he's not allowed here or Isaac there. What's crazy is, I found out, the boy who downloaded the page for boy #2's page is ALSO Jewish, not just his Dad. He didn't get the severity of it. Unreal. No fun to be the bad guy, but maybe Isaac will learn to stand up for himself in the face of adversity one day when he understands better.

IMO,
Myspace should not allow that kind of thing. I'm sure they can't police every page but I'd like to know the site that created such a downloadable backround. That site should be shut down. There is such a thing as hate censorship.

Re: Holy_Grail
Thanks for the support. :) You'd be surprised how little these people give a shit. It kills me. They blow off school, parents don't even monitor their myspace pages ... after all of the bad things that have happened associated with myspace (many with minors) why on earth don't they make the time? I know they may have more kids, work full-time, whatever, but they still have to raise the kids they have. This particular Mom freaked me out because she was so immature and two-faced about it. If it were up to Eddie, they would both be history (the two boys)... but it's impossible because they see each other at school and have the same circle of friends, so I had to try and sort it out. One said what I wanted to hear, maybe not so genuine, but he's a good friend to Isaac ... and he wasn't thinking about how it might hurt people (he put it on the other boys page and left the comments ... but he's not a racist or anti-Semitic person). The other IS a racist (as is his worthless father), he's also 14 and already fucking over girls (he looks 17). He will never set foot in my house, nor will Isaac be allowed at his. I was very upset, and hadn't told Eddie yet about what happened when I tried to talk to these boys and one of their Moms... he was very supportive and made me feel really good. That doesn't happen much. I was shocked at how many people were NOT shocked. Fortunately, Isaac has a good head on his shoulders and I will just have to let him make decisions on his own now. We talked about it in detail. He knows his time with the boy who is racist will be monitored and limited, but one day he'll get it. It's really hard making these decisions! That's why some parents just blow it off. So, there's the update ... lol ... xo...

Re: sam444
Yes, maybe not totally video games, but it seems that when the tough issues come up, many parents just throw up their hands out of frustrations and let kids do whatever they want... or they don't want to rock the boat. I'm trying to raise a happy, well-adjusted, open minded, non judgmental boy into the same type of adult. I think they just want peace and quiet and no drama every day. Thanks for your comment! :)

You're not out of line at ALL. I can't imagine a parent behaving like that. One swastika and I'd give my little brat a butt-bustin' as my Aunt Hazel used to say. Seriously, god...
