Sam, I'm not much of a poetry person. However, I do read your poetry daily
Why? Because you have a special way with words which convey your innermost thoughts. Thank you I.R

But, who wants to be safe, Sam?
....Let us, then, be up and doing,
With a heart for any fate ;
Still achieving, still pursuing,
Learn to labor and to wait. --Longfellow

Yup- too many "numb" people walking around out there. Inspiring words!

Sam-a lovely written piece! However-if we remain 'numb'-we will be
'numb' to all the beautifull things-as well as those we wish to protect ourselves from! There has to be a balance-sun/rain--happy/sad--healthy/hurting!etc.without the one-we could not possibly embrace the other! God bless-Chris.

Great piece although I am inclined to believe more in the
"no retreat no surrender" value rather than going through life numb! Thanks for sharing

Deeply thought stirring, Sam..

I agree; being an instrument for change awakens the numbness of our collective condition.

Nice writing,as usual Sam. The last two lines confounded me (and you?)
You were suggesting we surrender to the point of numbness--most people succumb to television and orders per Orwellian 1984, as we march against freind and foe in the third world. Take Iran last week and now, after the intelligence reassessment. What makes ouir population to swing either way, as Government Big Brothers suggests. The numbness, you allude to. Then in the end, you tell us to "fight" back to salvage our lives, humanity and independence. It is good and effective, and perhaps very radical, or slightly cute! (LOL) Shalom Shelly Lady Poet
