I'm with you, mysteria. I wrote a post on this topic a long, long time ago.
I'll throw the link up if I can find it.  Anyway, I think people do this to make their lives simpler.  Less thinking if there's more than two choices.  You know, good vs. evil, Ford vs. Chevy, rap vs. rock, George Bush vs. intelligence.  But life is a bit more complicated, is it not?
