Your name surely describes your personality. I don't know the movie, however, but it all sounds good to me. Have a great day!

The rich people
In scripture it says that it is easier for a camel to go thru the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to get to heaven.  Good ideas though from the movie pay it forward

Re: bpitter

I know the feeling well Taps. I've never been there either. But I give my last sometimes without even thinking about it. And kids in need just break my heart.

Thanks for your comments.

Sweetheart you are a wonderful person and you truly mean well. I certainly wasn't talking about you per se. But isn't it wonderful inside when you help someone. I also feel contented when I do just a little something. Imagine those who can do an awful lot.

Thank you for your comments.

Twisted View

I think you're right. I have absolutely no qualms with what you're saying. But you must realize that there are more rich people that you don't know about and that the average person don't consider. Anybody making over $100,000 grand a year is rich. I say that because it doesn't cost that much to live and be comfortable. If it does, then you're being extravagant, which is little more than comfortable.

Anybody who can afford to be extravagant should afford to give a little to someone who is struggling just to survive. It's the Godly thing to do. I'm not knocking everyone with money. I'm only knocking those who are very selfish and have money. There are plenty of good people in America who have and give also. I could name quite a few. But I could name more who don't. It couldn't hurt anybody of Trumps caliber to help a poor person every day. It ends up being tax deductible anyway. So what could it possibly hurt for someone like that to actually help a real person instead of organizations who have overhead and expenses that chew up the donations to where the average joe don't get what they need?

America has an bundance of wealth and it is unnerving to see that we have children without food, clothing, or a decent place to stay. Sure there are families who can't do any better because they don't have the education required to be better. And a lot of parents are not to blame because the education wasn't available to them years ago. We can always lay blame on somebody for some reason but why blame. Let's just do something to better the situation. If you know of someone who is struggling and you have an extra loaf of bread or something, why not share it. If more of us would give to those who don't have, not very many people would be without.

It's just a matter of living according to God's words. And those of you who do not believe in God don't even have to respond to this blog. I'm a believer and I don't make anybody do anything against their will. I just know that we all can be better than we are if we just stop being selfish.

Kind of a Twisted View
The rich that you are talking about are far and few between.  If there were more paris Hiltons out there, they would be all over the news also.  Seriously.....what amount of money do you classify as rich.  How much money does one have to earn per year to be called rich?  The flaw in the system is not that the rich keep getting richer and the poor get poorer.  The flaw is that the democrats in the federal government need to keep a class of society dependent on the the government to keep them in power.  Lets face it....if the federal government wasn't collecting 40% of the income from the wealthy....they would have more money to give to charities and help families and pay it forward so to speak.  The rich pay their taxes so the government can re-distribute that money already....thats the flaw right there.  How little money is earned to be called poor.  Its not only the rich that pay the taxes.....its the working middle class that pays also......the tax rates are what drives people into poordom!  Please no one tell me I don't know what I'm talking about, because I can testify to this truth personally!  People always tell you to follow the money if you want to find the source of the corruption......well we don't have to look any further than the government to find it.  If everyone was rich.....why would we need the government!  Answer that question and you will have the answer to why there will always be poor people, and there will always be rich people.  There is no way to seperate the lazy poor from the hard times and bad luck poor, and thats a problem.  I don't mind helping anyone who is trying to help themself, however the ones who just aren't motivated to raise their standard of living because they expect someone else to do it for them.......well.....your comment was right......screw them!

I've given more than I should (I'm closer to poor than to being rich!) but I never regreted it...I think it would be wise for people to learn the gift of giving, not from obligation, but from a true desire to help.

If anyone is going to be benevolent at all, they will do it this time of year.  So, this is a good time of year to post about the subject and to encourage sharing with the poor all year around.  I don't know much about the rich, I've never been there.  But, I was taught to give over and above what I felt that I could afford to give.

Wealth is Wasted on the Rich
Good post and welcome to Blogit!

Also, thanks for visiting my blog.  I have written a few books myself but am only now getting around to publishing them.  Fortunately, I have some friends to give me some guidance and support and, finally, a day job that can help fund my efforts.

Best wishes,
Carl Peter

Re: Bpitter,

Hi, Glennb, It's a pleasure to meet you, too. I love it here already. The best blog on the net and I've been to most of them. I love everybody's point of view and it makes you think out side of the box.

I hear you, too. But I wish it was a crime to be poor. So everyone could live and enjoy life like the ones who have it all.

Bpitter,
Welcome to Blogit. I hope you enjoy the stay here. It is a great place to express your pleasures and dislikes. Without knowing everyone we consider "Rich" it is hard for me to pass judgement on their benovolence. "War criminal", is a different matter, I think Hitler set that standard for all to measure! When it becomes a crime to murder Arabs, Bush will have the new standard!

Re: bpitter

One day richinstore, maybe we'll all come together and live as one. But not until the power of money has exhausted itself so the power of love can come through.

The Rich

I'm sorry Butterflybeebs if I made you think I was lumping all the rich into one category because I really wasn't. I just didn't pick and choose when I wrote the blog. Now I could name names but that's not why I wrote it. I was just trying to wake some people up so they can see how to help those who really are in need. Giving to charities and other organizations is great. But a lot of needy people still don't get helped.

And Mr. Africa, taking anything from anybody is not the right thing to do. That's criminal. The government is doing that everyday to you and most of us because they take our money in taxes and whatever else they can charge us with. You don't like that, do you? If you do, then maybe you need a government job:) Just kidding!

Yes, Saul, people need to give a damn about each other. That's what it's all about. If we can truly care for one another, then the world would be a much better place, I think. It's not hard to do. All you have to do is care for yourself. When you care for yourself, then you can share that caring for someone else. If you hate yourself, you hate the world.

And yes, I give everyday, and I'm not even rich. I'm rich in my heart and I love the way I feel when I help someone in any way I can. It's a feeling you don't experience until you do it. Remember, God is love. He loves us when we love each other. Don't you love your children when they show love to each other? This is basically common sense. You know what makes you feel good, so why should you not know what might make someone else feel good?

The whole idea of the blog was to say those who can afford it should help one person or one family to stand on their own two feet enough to survive and enrich their lives also. In turn, that one person or family should be obligated to help someone else in need. Then it becomes a cycle of goodness. That's all I was saying.

Thank you all for your response. It's good to hear how people feel about things like this.

Don't ask for it .. just take it .. i've learned this much as an African in this world .. then do what you preach with it .. what do you do with the money that you have .. how many people have you helped so far .. ask yourself those question .. have you done all you could?

babs, great post! I often wonder that myself.
I believe that people do what make them feel good to do for others.  Real charity will hurt, and well, people never did like giving if it really costs them something.

Lots give, bpitter, both rich and not so rich and poor (who usually can't
afford to).  It comes down to a matter of compassion, willingness, and opportunity.  I don't blame all the landed and wealthy, just the hedonists.  I really think it comes down to a matter of giving a damn enough about your fellow man to make the world a better place for as many people as you can, regardless of your circumstances...

why?
Some rich do... the very very wealthiest do..... the problem is the list... the famous list.... Forbes 500.... one must be a billionaire to get on that list... and once in that club there is a social pressure to become a philanthropist if you want to hob nob with Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Georges Soros....... (not important to me....but you can't imagine how it is for some). So the "poor" unfortunates that find themselves under have one goal...to be ON THAT LIST!!!!

So they save their money..... but to be fair...
I know several people that have made a lot, and I mean a lot of money..., I keep wondering if they would adopt me..... and they give a lot of money...  ex.... one friend's husband turned 60 this year.... ceo of large 500 firm... he asked his friends and guests in lieu of gifts to give money to an organization to help girls and another organization that helps troubled youths in their city...  He then turned around and matched every dollar raised.. in fact he doubled it.... This man made every single dime on his own and did not get a penny from his family, in fact he pays for the college education for his nieces and nephews so long as they get a B average...  This is just one story.... I know there are people out there who give back...

The problem is our war..... the trillions on war.... so no money for health care for our own or for education....the insane tax cuts for the wealthy... (another person I know who is in that catagory said 'I don't want a tax cut!! I don't need anymore money!')  Unfortunately there are others that can't get enough money and will end up like the little fat kid in the willy wonka film, who kept stuffing his face with chocolate...ahhhhh Paris Hilton and the camera!  It is an illness....

I was raised that if you see someone in need and you can help you have a duty to help!!  If god has blessed you, you must share... for it is in giving that you receive....  not giving to take back.....

Why The Rich Don't Do More?

That's one checkmark in your favor at the Pearly Gates don't you think?

There is a Biblical passage:  To paraphrase:  "It's easier for a camel to pass between the eye of a needle than a rich man enter into the kingdom of heaven."  joab

I agree with your philosophy: the rich helping the poor. But in reality: the rich being "Scrooge" ...and that's the difference.
