Not this woman...! Perhaps I should have taken a leaf out of Ell's book, or mum's.

Re: mneme
Your mother won that round, mneme, and probably every other one - as women are wont to do.

Johnmacnab, this sounds like a fairly archetypal exchange :) Reading it, I  remembered my mother painting the ceiling, years ago.  My father was a heavy smoker in those days and she'd kept on at him to paint the living room ceiling, and he'd kept putting it off.  Then he went to the match one Saturday, after they'd had words about it again.  'Right,' she said, and got out the steps, a four-inch paintbrush, and white paint. After three hours she'd done a strip about three feet wide, and when dad came back, he took one look at it, found a roller and paint tray, and finished it in an hour. Not quite sure who won that round...

Er......em......I don't think it will come to me taking her along with me to pick the tiles, CP.  it will more of "guess what I've ordered, darling; they are being delivered this afternoon?"  And when it comes to the flowers and chablis?    I think she should be buying them for me - what a dream world I live in.

I have to side with Ell on this one
Best thing for you is to bring her along to pick out the tile.  Then, when you have installed them, or had them installed, buy her some flowers, some scented bubble bath or salts, chill some chablis and make a nice night of it.

TAPS
In a real, live flood I would drown, TAPS - but at least I would know what it was going to feel like.

Pat
Methinks you are watching to many PBS TV programmes, Pat.  I am a great believer in getting a professional to do things, but apparently I can tile a bathroom.  At least so I am told, and to prove it, Ell rhymes off all the DIY jobs I have done in previous homes (when I was about a thousand years younger)   Not to worry Pat, I am a great procrastinator, but I do like the fuzzy slipper picture.

John
Ell was just doing what we women have always done....made the lemonade!  My kind of woman.....thinks on her feet....and that's why things always work out the way they should!  She's just making sure your castle is as comfy and beautiful as you deserve  Loved the post.....you have the greatest way with painting the picture and getting the genuine laugh, you never fail to leave me with a grin.

I just hate it when something in the house floods.  I would never make it through a real, honest-to-goodness flood I think.  But, people do, don't they.

Whacky & Bo
I can see that you've been in this position yourself, Whacky.   We.....make that Ell, hasn't chosen them yet, and luckily for me, there is a snowstorm today so I'll have a couple of days to cool down

If my recent TV viewing is in any way related to reality
the new tile in the bathroom will increase your asking price and will eventually prove profitable, should you decide to relocate. And if you and Ell are staying put and worshipping at the throne of the do-it-yourself diety, (which is not exactly the porcelain throne that lives in the room that carries your name) -- then the new tile will be beautiful and an excuse to tuck your toes into fuzzy slippers before entering the throne room.

ginnieb
Funnily enough, ginnie, when I asked Ell what the correct description was for a husband who killed his wife, I got a frightened look in reply.  It is a word I've never heard in my life before.  The thing that gets me about Ell's 'thinking' is that she knows and I know she will get her way.

Haha!! Great word, Mac!!
Uxoricide!  I admit I had to look up the meaning!  Poor Ell...she's only trying to be rational as every woman is...I means tries to be!  I like her explanations!    She's good!!!  Haha!!
