shelly.: It's clear by your continuing to return that you are NOT done.
You have some nerve.  First, you make BLARING implications in not just this blog; implicating comments made by you appeared in other blogs regarding my being a banned blogger, an accusation that is completely false and unfounded.  Then, despite your being completely wrong in your accusation, you still have yet to own up to your blatent error in judgment, not to mention your continual antagonistic behavior in returning to this one post after nearly a week to continue arguing with me about my opinion.  No, shelly., it's clear that you are NOT done.  Actions speak louder than words.

I haven't said anything in "other" blogs.
Like I said, I'm done.  I have nothing more to say to you.

More on posting emails:

It might behoove everyone to go read the conduct policy, particularly the link regarding copyright law.  From "10 Big Myths about copyright explained" by Brad Templeton:

"While copyright law makes it technically illegal to reproduce almost any new creative work (other than under fair use) without permission, if the work is unregistered and has no real commercial value, it gets very little protection."

In other words, just because it's an email that I got in my inbox doesn't give me the right to post it uncited as if it were my own.

shelly.: How about the blogit rules for starters?

doesn't rule #11 in the conduct policy clearly consider chain letters to be a violation?  I, for one, consider email forwards to be chain letters.  And here we are again, discussing the rules of this site.

Just because it bothers you doesn't mean others don't like it, you know?  Most of those bloggers get a lot of comments.  Funny, that is the exact same argument littering the Town Square regarding a recently banned blogger and his so-called spamming.  Therefore, your point is rendered irrelavent.

Furthermore, the fact that you commented both here in this comment thread and in other blogs accusing me of being a banned blogger with zero evidence puts your integrity into serious question in my mind.  So do you think that I really care what you think, after all this?  Do you think anyone should?

hahahahaha, you remind me of a blogger who used to get mad
at other bloggers who use to post their distribution lists.  NO, I'm not accusing you of being that blogger.  I just thought it was funny.  What's wrong with sharing a picture or an email with someone else?  Come on.  Just because it bothers you doesn't mean others don't like it, you know?  Most of those bloggers get a lot of comments.

shelly.: There is a difference between WRITING and copying and pasting

forwarded junk emails.  The day I wrote this, I clicked 17 blogs in a row containing forwarded garbage that someone just copied and pasted, which is a waste of my time and money.  It was to this that I was writing, and if you reread my post, you'll see that.

"Lowering your standards" as a writer, shelly., means to still WRITE.  It's hard to come up with something worth posting on a daily basis; but be original about it!  The post you linked expressed frustration, anxiety, fear of writing, and you might not have felt good about it.  But it was YOUR ORIGINAL WORK.  You didn't just slap an email up there.  Or post a picture of your foot in a poetry blog with no poem.

It's not to people that write original work with whom I'm annoyed; but to those copy-and-paste people that do not write, because they are insulting the writers here.

I hope this clarifies.

FYS...during my short hiatus on blogit a while back, I was going through

a really rough time.  An incident between another blogger and I went sour and I wasn't sure if I was ever going to come back to blogit.  But thanks to a friend,  I signed back on and started to write.  After a few posts (that I ended up deleting)  I finally wrote this one..

http://www.blogit.com/Blogs/Blog.aspx/shellyb./500344

I'm not sure if you remember but you did comment on it.  Your comment, as well as many others, made my day.  After reading that comment again, I don't know how you ended up writing this post.  Unless you were just trying to make me feel better?  It doesn't make sense.

Don't let 'em get you down FYS - they're petty little people who obviously need to find a hobby! Most importantly, they're the minority - I'm sure most bloggers love your work as much as I do!

Re: Wow...Sira, Thank you for this, and for the compliment on my work.
when I came here I also hoped for more feedback, more inspiration--and I believe that you have summed up what happened here.  Two of the commenters went so far as to accuse me of being a banned blogit member, and apparently went on an email campaign with other blogit members to spread the word; an action for which I'm still sweeping up the mess from, rather than reading, getting inspired and writing, like I want to with my membership money.

Wow...

FYS,

I couldn't agree more with your post. I joined this site with the intention of using it to get some constructive feedback on my works in progress, and to (hopefully) offer some feedback to other writers.

But I have trouble finding writers here - so many posts are full of nothing but mindless pics and links. If I wanted to watch video's on youtube, I'd be on the youtube site, not here!

Having read all the other comments, I was amazed at how personally some people took your opinion - from what I can tell, you were simply stating the facts as you saw them, and not picking on anyone in particular. Maybe they got so offended because deep down, they realize that what they post is not quality material, and they're a little self concious about it.

Oh, and you shouldn't hesitate to put yourself in the same category as the rest of the excellent bloggers you listed - you have a talent that defies description!

To me, all bloggers are simply people trying to express an opinion, good, bad, or indifferent.  I, myself,  have posted entire columns from columnists because I could not distill their thoughts.  As for being critical, I left 3 comments here because I was interested.  I am no longer, because I perceive a circular logic forming and I avoid even min-maelstroms.  joab

Re: Re: This exchange has what value, pray tell?

This exchange has only the intrinsic value place upon it.  Your opinion matters greatly, to you,  .  The same as all of the others feelings where they are concerned.  And expressing them verbally at least gives one a "starting" point.  IMO, this entire matter was a product of someone's feelings being hurt -- I neither know nor care to know.  It is sufficient that I realize it.  But I do realize that some people have difficulty with words (I know, being dyslexic)and to classify them as not living up to the code is a crime.

It does not matter one whit whether or not you ever read my postings.  They are me, for me, for my enjoyment. for my cataharsis; and if others find some measure of pleasure or comfort -- hallelujah!  But I am here to put my fragmented psyche as near as it used to be as possible.  I know that I face difficulties.  It often takes me an hour just to compose this type of comment, because the thoughts in my head don't mesh with the words I speak.  It is quite humbling, because my profession has gone down the tubes (not UTube).  So I practice daily, go to the sites on blogit, some make me laugh -- others make me think and re-think positions I have taken.  I have nothing left to remark, except to write that this was meant in the best of intentions.  peace.  joab

This exchange has what value, pray tell?

To: FINE YOUNG SINGER--  I do not think you are that qualified to judge others; people are individuals with emotions, not just typed expressions.  They may be off-center, but compare them with some of your own remarks.  Others may have not liked them.  Some have appeared, through no fault of your own, to come off arrogant and all-knowing.  The people who pay to post here, do not do it for your nor my reasons, they do it for their own.  So I try to understand where they are coming from because it gives my befuddled mind something of a trail of thought that might be followed. You have a flair for words, but nothing extraordinary, use what talent god gave you to uplift others, not put them down as lesser intellects.

I say all the above with respect.   joab

Re: I'M emotional? LOL

yes, shelly., you're emotional.  You're getting all balled up over something that a person you don't even know wrote in a blog under the heading "OPINION" on a members-only web forum billed as a site for writers (see above).  In fact, you are letting this post bother you to the point that you keep coming back to argue about it.

Reread your comment:  You have the right to express yourself, but it's wrong to criticize.  Offering criticism is an example of expressing oneself, so you're contradicting yourself.  Could it be that you really only support self-expression so long as it agrees with your opinions and ideals regarding right and wrong?

I'M emotional? LOL
look, I'm not saying that you don't have a right to express yourself.  But I think it's wrong for you to criticize how people express themselves.  It's not right.  How would feel if someone said that your stuff was crappy?  I don't think you would feel good about it.  Though, I could be wrong.

I see no problem with different ways to express themselves.

FineYoungSinger - thanx for the mention, every bit of promo helps

I feel your frustration, having experienced it many times over my tenure here on Blogit. What I have come to realize however is that the vast majority of people that come through this site find themselves becoming a product of the existing environment, inevitably acquiescing to existing site paradigm. Which can only be described as a glorified chatroom on most days. Articulate, thoughtful and thought provoking posts do exist on this site and act as a breath of fresh air amongst what can only be described as "filler" (to be kind) but they are painfully too few and far between.

These are the realities of a public forum, any public forum. I have found that once this realization is made, a participant who is not willing or capable of becoming a product of the chat room environment must re-examine their justifications for being here. I made my decision to stay based on a number of intangibles that may not be readily apparent or suitable reasons for others. Despite these considerations, one thing that I have to concede is that I have in fact wasted a great deal of time here.

joab, thank you for the compliment on my writing.  I don't feel it appropriate to name myself as a quality writer, as I always see areas in my own work that could use improvement.   As far as the quality of the posters here, I'm even sorrier, because the nature of this site is that the top writers most often are top commenters.  I've seen my numbers rise the more I comment, which really makes Blogit "The Online Commenting Marketplace."  Sad stuff.  Especially when someone comes along and gets pissy about a post I've written.

Comment on Sittin' On The Dock Of The Blog Wastin' Time...

Interesting and stimulating post.  However, I believe you overlooked yourself when you were qualifying and quantifying the bloggers as to merit and ability. You are most certainly belong among those you named.  As to "writing vis a viz opinions, per se.  IMO, opinions are, by nature and disposition, prejudiced,  And a number of people have difficulty with other's opinions and prejudices.  But if a person feels strongly enough to post about some incident, though trivial and diametrically opposite in nature to some, it still deserves an honest read.  If only to be challenged.

I'm sincerely sorry that the majority of the posters on this blog aren't sufficiently intellectual enough for your curious mind. And you do have a most interesting and inquiring mind. That gift can be a drag as well as a blessing.  I'm just the opposite . . . I'm overwhelmed by the possibilities I see; the minds reaching out for the first time . . . questioning, however shyly . . . but questioning still. Most of all . . . they make me question myself and my manifold limitations.   joab
