The lady of my dreams referred to the "curve balls of life"...
in describing my ending up at the warehouse at the company where we both worked until I got my career back on course with my current contract. The curve ball she described didn't break, though, and could have knocked me on the noggin. I said it was sometimes worth getting hit by a pitch to get to first base.
A little forward and corny, to be sure, but it expressed what I felt very aptly, namely my thanks for that particular curve ball.
