Thanks for the info. I have been doing some research using the internet and some reputable sites. It's just sometimes hard to distinguish. I will always take helpful information.

Beware. Many "contests" are scams to collect a few bucks.
If you're going to enter contests, go to the big contests in reputable magazines like "Writers Digest". There's one poetry contest that exists just to sell you a copy of the big book with your "prize wining entry" in it -- at $40 or more. There are also ads in a magazine called "Poets & Writers" (also has a website) -- which are legit. Magazines and other publishers are overwhelmed with manuscripts and stories, so you've got to be lucky as well as talented to get your work in print. Here's wishing you all the good luck you'll need!
