Re: Christmas to me
Thanks for sharing that with us. Here in South Africa, Christmas is stil a holiday and we a free to celebrate Chrismas as we please. Though Christmas has been so materialized that it gets harder to explain to the children what the real meaning of Christmas is. Especially since the Bible classes were cut out of the school curriculum. It is totally up to the parents to teach their children of their different traditions, religion and historical background. I ask myself on a regular basis, "What is the use of Chrisrmas day if it is only about the money people can make?" So I can understand your frustation with the situation!

Christmas to me
It isn't what it used to be.  I have lovely memories of it, but Christmas is a depressing time for me now.  I do the presents for the kids and get hubby a present but.....nobody gets me anything.  I know this is childish of me, but christmas is just a reminder that I live in a foreign country.  Japan is not a christian country and christmas is totally comercial a showy meaningless thing.  My kids are not growing up christian and I feel hopeless in trying to 'educate' them about Christmas.  They know it is Jesus Christ's b-day, and that he is a God, but it is quite meanningless to them  It is just another day here, not even a holiday, the kids usually have school and there is work as usual and I am always depressed.  The twenty fourth is a holiday, I beleive the Showa Emporer's birthday, and couples get together on christmas eve for dates, but I grew up a christian missionary's kid, then a ministers kid, and to me it is proof of my estrangement from that life.  Well it is the life I chose so tough luck, but I get lonlier by the minute thinking of Christmas.  I just can't help it.
