Re: Mr. Mukasey
WD.
Many judges in many states, as Attorneys General, are elected. Yet, no matter, it is still a political office. Politicians are not impartial. At least when they are appointed, and need confirmation , there may be a little more objectivity since they have to, at least, convince the varying political parties to give the stamp of approval. What matters is the qualities of the persons holding these offices, not how they are appointed.

Re: Ex Turpi
Justi: The way the rules of congress, particularly the senate, have evolved, unless you have a veto proof majority, or a fillibuster proof senate, there is little legislation you can get accomplished. The democrats are just barely hanging on.

Saul: You may be right. Yet one bad advice to the president, or one acquiescence to a bad suggestion could be catastrophic.Yes, I do not think Mr. Mukasey is worse than any other.

Mr. Mukasey
Ex Turpi: Mr. Mukasey will be just like every other Attorney General: a defender of the President and not the head lawyer representing America. Why can't the national Attorney General be elected by the people? As a matter of fact, all of these judges including Supreme Court Justices, should be elected by the people. These people have more power than the Executive and Legislative branches of government in many cases. They should be elected by the people. Judges and Attorney Generals should have campaigns just like the legislative members of our government.

I wonder at your statement about the savvy of the electorate. It has been a year since the Democratic majority took over with promises aplenty to change the world. I can't see that they have even gone toward anything that could be considered extra smart.

Mukasey is a last quack of lame duck. Nobody really cares, just
paying party lip service. There's nothing really wrong with Mukasey or they wouldn't have had to get all bent out of shape over the nonissue of his equivocal answer on waterboarding.

I'm not following this issue as closely as I should, but I believe you've
given me a reason to find out what's going on. Thanks for this.
