That's an American thing, years ago, a big deal about saving a whale
in an aquarium, freeing it out of captivity. A movie was made, sort of Disney-like, about or similar to it, called Free Willy. That was my train of thought.
Willy just doesn't translate over here the same way.

Now, that is making me laugh!
Oh, to be the age where Star Wars seriously represents the Oedipal complex. Lame is the word that springs to mind.
Free Willy is the other one. Save Keiko!

also - perhaps being able to hear a mixed group of 1st year university
students outside my room having a serious conversation about how "starwars is real" which was then followed by an attempt to try and explain the oedipus complex to each other and making much use of the phrase "boy's willy's" - influenced me

No,
don't be embarrassed. Don't let my reaction or your perception of my reaction inhibit what you want to post. That's not, imho, what the collective is about. There needs to be the joker, the jester to liven things up. That's exactly what we're missing.

i can feel that this kind of frivolity is not really in sync with what's
currently going on here - this was my second choice, and it intervened suddenly across what i was working on, which was more sober - part of me is a bit embarrassed by its juvenality (i know there is no such word)

I'm not exactly in a "Get along little doggies" kind of mood. But I enjoyed the verse very much.
