The question is...
How many days do you need to be in therapy?

So with a couple of weeks down, you have about a month to go.

Congratulations!

Re: Re: Re: maerchenzaehler
I've decided that what I really need is to make progress... so sick or not, I'm taking the meds to go to therapy.  Frustration and disappointment with myself for not progressing is making my mental situation worse.

Re: I should have known that, Mitya is short for Dimitri

Yep, Mitya is short for Dmitri.  We both have degrees in Russian Studies (emphasis on history and lit for me).

And Eve was an undergrad while Mitya and I were both grad students.  Mitya didn't move out after he graduated (it's my house), but he did take a job at the Uni where we graduated (and Eve still attends).  He and two teaching assistants (both from Russia) co-teach Russian I.  This creates huge problems for Eve.  She technically can't take Russian classes at all because the grad students and instructors are always popping in and out of our house.  But she definitely can't take Russian I because she lives with Mitya.

Re: Re: maerchenzaehler
I have to admit that I also hate taking medicines and especially any that make me nauseous or cause any other symptom unusual to my norm.   I also have to admit that I have never taken pain meds stronger than acetominophen.   So, I really shouldn't be giving you advice.  I do know from being a nurse that therapy is much more effective if the pain can be somewhat controlled.   I hope that you find the right solutions for you.  I think a lot about you and your situation and wish you the best.

Doink.  Eve can't take lessons because there's a conflict of interest by being roommates with the teacher?  Sorry if I'm being thick here.

Sorry to hear about the pills.  I know how that goes. I take meds myself.

Re: maerchenzaehler
I took your advice today.  I saw the doctor and got the pills.  They make me feel sort of nauseated, despite taking them with food and milk.  Wonder how my physical therapist will take it that morning I toss my cookies because my body doesn't like narcotics... Actually that might be something to look forward to...

Re: Maer, tell Mitya that Russian is actually a fun language to learn.

Zena -

Mitya is Russian.  He's originally from a city called Saratov, but moved to Moscow in the mid-90's before moving here.  Eve wants to learn Russian, but since Mitya is the teacher and her roommate... she can't.

Maer, tell Mitya that Russian is actually a fun language to learn.

I got my degree in it. It has no fixed word order and about 10 "case endings" to learn, but maybe I'm biased because I'm partly Russian, I think it's a beautiful language.

Don't give up. Keep trying.  Even small increments add up.

I fear that I am repeating myself but....take the pain medicine before therapy.  Take it one hour before time to start (or per the instructions that come with it).  You will make much better progress in therapy and your muscles will become stronger faster.  The therapist will not let you do more therapy than would be good for your condition.
