Re: another thing to shake our heads at and say how terrible, how do you change
Hi callista, thanks for reading.  Yes, and as long as people continue to put more value on the outer shell than what lies within, nothing will ever change.

another thing to shake our heads at and say how terrible, how do you change
peoples values and priorities?

Re: "LOOK AT ME!"

joab, that is what made me sick about the pageant...I mean, fake teeth?  Even your teeth are not good enough, so hey! pop fake ones in, because what you have isn't good enough.  VOMIT!!!

Can you say a stage full of budding binge-purgers?

You have some good points there.

Re: Puke indeed!
You should have seen the show, Tony---can you imagine putting fake teeth in your kid's mouth and parading them up and down a stage with a bathing suit spray glued to their butt?  BLAAAAHHHHH!

"LOOK AT ME!"
It is so sad that most of these children, when they look in a mirror at their own reflection,  see mostly "imperfection" that must be corrected, at someone else's whim, or else life will be a failure. joab

Zena--That is the most disturbing I think.

Good and nice, singer.

It must be, plus Moms who want to live out their vicarious fantasies
through their daughters.  But so many Moms have this weird rivalry with their daughters anyway.  The ones who try to dress like their daughters.  Sheesh. it's sad.

Re: I can picture her so easily. They start murdering her soul long before she

I know that poor little girl.

I have always believed that the pageant thing is an adult version of playing with dolls.  Dress them up, do their hair, make them look pretty.  It's just so strange.

Re: Fine, Puke is right. All little Jon Benet Ramseys
O man, Zena, that is exactly what I was thinking when I was watching those little girls!  They all looked just like Jon Benet.  Big blonde hair, all that makeup, it was eerie!

Fine, Puke is right. All little Jon Benet Ramseys
(and look how that turned out)

afzal, you know, as much as we want to believe that we've made a difference, you are right.  I think some people can change, but for the most part, I think far too many people are shallow and hold us all back.

Re: Puke is right...
superfly, you know it, mama.  I run a youth program at my church, and if there's one thing I try to impart on my girls it's that you are worth more than your face.  But then a stupid "rocumentary" on VH1 shows a behind the scenes of a plastic little girl pageant, and sets us back yet again.  AAAAHHHHH!

Puke is right...
What a way to raise a girl.  "You're only value is beauty honey, so, use it before it's gone cause then you have nothing."  Great message to send!

Re: Fineyoungsinger
LOL Zena!  I went to school with a girl that grew up on the pageant circuit.  She had her pictures plastered on every wall of her bedroom.  Her song was that one-note scale...ME ME ME!!!

Some people are just me-me-me, it's like a one-note scale.
