In my experience...
... the most influential factor is the students' relation to each other. How do they know and relate to each other outside of class and if they are strangers, what preconceptions do they enter with?

It is all the above, newfielover, and more. It is situational and
circumstantial. It is immediate and never-gonna-happen forever. It is important and whatever. It is biological, physiological, emotional, psychological, hemispherical, cardiological, hormonal, chromosomal, predispositional, nature vs. nurture and nature AND nurture. How do I know this? I am a teacher and have children of my own. LOL.
But don't give up; there's at least one of them you'll be able to reach (uh... probably). Welcome to Blogit, my friend...

THINK YOU MIGHT BE ON TO SOMETHING
Im 63, and have finally realized I'm a morning person--though I didn't think this as a teen. And being in outside sales, I find that after 1:30 PM--it's not that I become brain dead, but the world has already become taffy...and just look at the traffic. I also find that if I take a nap and skip rush hour, i can have some very good results after 6PM.
