Wonderfully profound!

"on a stubborn resolution to be happy which has been so vast a resource to some of us in fortifying our embattled spirits."

I have no doubt in my mind where my trials came from; not particular accidents of misfortune but other lessons in life; both parents were more miserable than ever joyous a majority of the time. Continued battles of pride infused our household. The balance was also present in, instilling morals, integrity and fortitude. We did not learn joy but learned gratitude. We did not learn self love but learned respect for others. There is always a give and take but I am amazed looking back at how much effort both parents made considering their own upbringings. They had very little council to enter into parenthood, but did amazingly well because although both strong willed and prideful, where one was weaker, the other held strength. I feel blessed to have had the parents I had, and will always.

I don't know about luck; but back to the point in the first place (sorry). I didn't often consider decisions logically but made decisions based more upon my heart's directions. I know all the trials brought me where I am today and I am pleased with who I am; this being said...thick skinned but maybe also thick headed because I am still more comfortable following my heart and still have a problem considering anything from a logic standpoint.

100% agreed with you superflymom, we make our own luck and our action determines our luck

we make our own luck...
the rest is what I consider our lot in life, set for us before we ever get here.  If you don't make the best of the lot you are given, you live a miserable existence.  I know first hand about misfortune and the consequences of bad befalling a person.  Where I am today is completely determined by the way I responded to sudden traumatic events in my life, that is not luck, that is life and the living of it...

Some, I now feel, carry their "misfortunes" in a plastic bag, hung around their neck.  Just my opinion.  joab

Re: True and interesting perspective...
agreed Sheilah, in most circumstances, it is one to turn bad uck around to your advantage. In most cases, there is a hidden lessons in these 'bad' luck and if one learns from them, I won't called it bad luck at all.

True and interesting perspective...
I agree, and also believe that there are some that besides luck also had the will power to discover the tools that turn bad luck into good luck.
