Cringe....
If you go back.....please take the time to go inside the American Express building and see the teardrop memorial to the employees lost in the WTC....it is a heart-wrenching experience.....

Hi lady....
My opinion is this. The brutality of that incident makes all of us victims to some degree. The presence of those who did that and will again when they feel the time is right are the ones who put a sense of dread in my soul. Viewing a place of painful death is something I don't want to do. Each of us has to look at it from our own personal perspective. You have as much right as anybody this is a world situation we will all face at some time.

It's prime real estate, Cringe. It is really hard to say what most of the
relatives of the victims of 9/11 would say about what to do about Ground Zero, but, at the risk of being somewhat callous, it is really up to the people who own the land... But if it were my decision, I would not wish to see another skyscraper rise there to possibly fall victime again in some later tragic occurrence...

the impact 9/11 had reaches further than what most people would believe. a lot of people think that it only really effects Americans, and more than that the families directly involved. I was in Okinawa, Japan when the towers fell. it happened in the middle of the night. i woke up, walked outside, and was shocked to see tanks and personel transports strolling through the streets. The base i was living on was locked down, and even the Japanese military had beefed up thier defense. Most police units were carrying automatic weapons the first week after. Even today, the shockwave 9/11 had cause still has not died down.

Great post. I can only imagine how that must have felt. It's got to be a sobering, emotional experience if you're expecting it; much less if you're NOT.

Pat has expressed what I also feel so well, that I only need to add one thing: I can (and do) also fully appreciate the sense of defiance in the face of that evil, which expresses itself in the creation of the new site...

An atrocity like the destruction of all those lives on 9-11
impacts any human with a heart, anyone who's ever lost a loved one. It's not a question of where one was born or whether the loss was personal -- everyone has a "right" to feel the loss and horror, and to be angry about the idea of profiteering on that egregious day. There's an "ask not for whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee" feeling about it.

I'm sure there has been a lot of changes to the WTC after the 9/11 tragedy.
