Re: Re: Catechism

check out this review:

"Antique theology. This is the Catholic Catechism before Vatican II written in the 1950's by Fr. William J. Cogan, a close friend of Senator Joe Mcarthy. This book would make good foder for anti-Catholic propaganists, its stridency, intollerance, and absloutist approach to the doctrines of the Church would frighten away anyone with an IQ over 80. This is not a thinking persons theology, but a recipe book for how to be a Catholic robot."

I couldn't find the Adult Catholic Teaching Aids on the internet anywhere.

Re: Re: Catechism
ahaaaaaa.   I see it's a TAN publication.  They don't even read what they put out there.  That publishing house is a problem---if it was written before Vatican II, they print it, sight unseen.  UGH!   WHAT A MESS!!!!!!!

Re: Catechism
A Catechism for Adults was prepared by Rev. William J. Cogan and published by ACTA (Adult Catholic Teaching Aids) Publications.

It is a Catholic Document, and it is called a Catechism.
so which is the catechism?  And do you then say that the document which I quoted is invalid?

That document does NOT supersede the Catechism of the Catholic Church in its teaching, which is what I quoted for you below.  Therefore, the source you've cited is not necessarily correct.

Who wrote this "Catechism for Adults?"

quoting from the Catholic "Catechism for Adults", starting on pg 99

3.  Why did God make marriage?

    For two purposes:

    1) for bringing children into the world, and

    2) for the constant help of husband and wife.

4.  How do you know that the first purpose of marriage is children?

The Bible says so ' "Be fruitful and multiply"  (Genesis 1:28)

8. What is the purpose of sexual pleasure?

To attract husband and wife to have children and to foster love for each other.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Can you clarify as to what the "main Christian denomination" is

Not true.  the official teaching is:

"It aims at a deeply personal unity, a unity that, beyond union in one flesh, leads to forming one heart and soul; it demands indissolubility and faithfulness in definitive mutual giving; and it is open to fertility."  (CCC, 1643)  The teaching has ALWAYS been that sex is the celebration of the sacrament of marriage.

Read the Song of Songs from scripture, a highly sexual, pleasure-oriented book of scripture.  It is often referenced during premarital preparation when discussing the sexual nature of marriage.  Wherever you learned this "relatively common knowledge" was not a reliable source.

Re: Re: Re: Can you clarify as to what the "main Christian denomination" is
basically I am speaking of Catholic teaching -- anyone from the faith understands that the teaching is that sex is only for procreation and not pleasure -- and I think that this is relatively common knowledge.

Re: Re: Can you clarify as to what the "main Christian denomination" is?
You should specifically name your target.  Moreover, it's best to be specific and directly cite your sources.  Unwillingness to cite your sources or name your targets might lead your reader to think you an unreliable source.

Sex is good and even healthy provided it is not overdone. Sex abstention is not good but ejaculation delay is good. You have an interesting discussion here. Good post.katzs

Xeno, Interesting. I believe that the Lord created sex too.

Yoga restricts sex! The semen must be conserved and transmuted back into vital essence by postures such as the shoulder stand. Vital essence nourishes the body! In the summer one can indulge, but not in winter! Eastern cultures used to be restrained about sex, now that is changing!

Sex

Interesting post, Xeno!

Can anyone tell me, if procreation is the reason for sex, why it is that a woman's desire for sex, if anything, increases after menepause(Sp), often and usually staying with her the rest of her life, until (pardon the pun) she is "flat on her back," near death???

Re: Can you clarify as to what the "main Christian denomination" is?
I try not to name specifically.  The main Christian denomination is the largest in the world, was the only one for over a millennium.
