It will be most interesting to see if the U.S. becomes the North American Union...many signs indicate a strong possibility of such - the country borderless and our courts meaningless under a Nafta provision of tribunals and consulates having final say over myriad issues; especially those involving corporate interests. Some people think this recent case could be a beginning taste of what is on the way:

"President Bush wants Texas courts to review a case involving confessed double-murderer Jose Medellin -- who now claims his conviction should be overturned because he was not allowed to talk to the Mexican consulate at the time of his arrest more than a decade ago. The president wants to enforce a decision by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which found that the convictions of Medellin and 50 other Mexican-born death-row inmates violated their rights to legal help under the 1963 Vienna Convention.

The Bush administration argues ignoring the ICJ's decision would harm American interests abroad. But Texas contends that neither the international court nor Bush has any say in Medellin's case."
