Re: bible rewrites
Mama joy, I spoke with two cheerful Mormons this PM and I was happy. They told me that a prophet was alive today, and they had a congregation in Salt Lake City. They insisted that penitence and confession be a prelude to further spiritual life! They were aghast that salvation should be seen as a 'done thing'. I further stressed the need to let go of teachings and books as one seeks to clear one's consciousness. We parted amicably, as they saw where I was coming from. My tone tone was tell me to be good, tell me how, but don't dunk my head into a Bible!

Re: Hi again

"Mind you, King James Bible is only one of the Bibles of different churches."

And different nations, of course.

Hi again

Mind you, King James Bible is only one of the Bibles of different churches. For me the greatets plus of King James version that it contains apokrif books as well, as I feel that a certain amount of truth is can be found in them aswell.

Books of the Bible were written originally in differnet languages. The Old Testament was in Herbew of course, and books of the New Testament were written on Herbew, Greek, Aramaean as I know. The Latin version (Septuaginta) hence a translation.

There is mainly two verison of Bible: the Chatolic and the Protestant. In the early times the two major congregation, the Israelian and Egyptian canonized the holy textes, and there is difference between the two version  (I forgat which which, sorry). One contains a few more books of Old Testament. Chatolic church accept the latter as the real one, Proestants the other. So Catholic Bible contains the following books, which not included in Protestant (also called the Deutero-Canonical books):

Tobias, Judith, Wisdom, Ecclesiasticus, Baruch, 1 Machabees, 2 Machabees.

Re: Different versions of the Bible
I'm half way through The Jesus Sutras: Rediscovering the lost religion of Taoist Christianity by Martin Palmer.  This is from the blurb on the back:

"In 1907, in a remote region of China, explorers discovered a vast treasure trove of ancient scrolls.  Dating from the 5th to 11th centuries AD, they recounted a Taoist Christian interpretation of Jesus' life and teachings..."

What's interesting is that these scrolls were drawing on very early - sometimes the very earliest - versions of the New Testament, versions which no longer exist today.  So kind of like an archaeological excavation of early Bible remnants.  Apparently the first Christian mission to China was in 635 AD.

Yep! Religious people can be hard to understand. Cubby-hole thinking is widespread. One set of rules for this and another set for that! Thanks!

I have to be honest its been years since I picked up a Bible to read, but as I mentioned before I was brought up in a house who had a mom who felt she was a religious person, but at the time she was raised during a period that the people were very prejudice, she held on to that prejudice and criticized many, fat people, people of other races and list goes on.  But she was a very loving person at the same time, but in some ways I believe she learned that from my dad, and I think that is where I learned the silence of religion.

I am just presenting the work of Robert Adams in an Article called 'What is the Church trying to hide'. He was reviewing a chapter with the same name, in the book 'The Bible Fraud' by Tony Bushby. I have this book and cross-checked that the info in the article is genuine. Bushby says of King James..." He pretended to be a Scholar in Theology and Philosophy but his learning was shallow and superficial. He wallowed in filth, moral and physical, but was endowed with a share of cunning that his associates called, ' a kind of crooked wisdom' ". Bushby's source was The Proceedings in Parliament, 17 March, 1621. But it was general knowledge at the time!

It's often said tell them what they want to hear. A paid for, do nothing
salvation is perfect for evil.  And that is how we got it. thanks for the info.
