Interesting as well as an anomaly,

I worked for the government when I began my career (back when they invented dirt and dinosaurs roamed the earth), I was in my early twenties and don't remember eating lunch at all, but that wouldn't surprise me, otherwise it has always been one-woman offices, until just prior to venturing out on my own.

I was in an office with another accountant, an assistant and three managers that shared a fridge. We did not have that problem per say, I believe because everyone took turns bringing extra to share (when wives baked goodies or husbands got catch or returned from hunting; sausages, smoked salmon, etc.). We took turns bringing goodies so no one went hungry.

I could almost understand if someone was broke or forgot their food, why they may sneak a tad from another (out of embarrassment), although wrong and would be proper to ask if anyone cared to share, simply because I not only have hypoglycemia and have had to humble myself when in a medical predicament to ask for help, but was on a special diet for FMS for most of the years I was employed there, so I actually carried a cooler in my trunk with the food I could eat, being allergic to wheat, additives, and preservatives particularly.

The owners (highly successful, third generation) understood that employees had problems concentrating when plagued by hunger, especially when under pressure on a bid day (general contractor) when time was short and stress ran high, they would many times order out for everyone wanting them to function at their peak of performance.

I commend you for packing a lunch. I manage finances for clients and eating out is the number one, most expensive 'luxury' responsible for driving a personal budgets south, besides you don't know who cooked it, handled it or what is truly in it. It is almost disgusting to consider at times.

I work from my home office mostly but in other offices as well, so I still pack a small cooler with my food (not for budget purposes as much as I prefer my own, healthy food), although the cost of eating out adds up quickly for those who do.

oh my gosh!!!!! i am laughing so hard,

that has happened to me twice!!!!!! and since i only get 30 minutes, you end up going without lunch, well not exactly, i got a candy bar out of the machine.

it would take alot of nerve to eat someone elses's lunch what if you walked in while they were eating it?   makes me think they were really hungry because you couldnt enjoy the food if you were afraid of being caught.

That's strange ... better inspect your co-workers teeth to see which one has some piece of ham between their teeth . LOL

Well, I go home for lunch (just 10min walk) but I sometimes bring yogurts for brunch... I think gnomes like yogurts too!
