Thanks some good points. I am one of those people that writes without thinking and barely edits, probably because a poem is an expression from me, I have no judgement of what is right or wrong, just what touches my heart. every one can write poems, if we need people to like it or even read it then we are in trouble in pain. its the same with art who is to judge what is art, poetry ect. sometimes writing soothes me it reflects whats going on at that moment in time offers some insight to where i am in the world. its simple............

You make some good points there.
I use rhyme because I like to - that is my choice, but of course it's not obligatory at all, neither is a repetitive and consistent rhythm. My own taste tends to run towards song-like structures, as I think they are preferred by the majority of readers, myself included, and that means a recognisable rhythm. It can be a rhythm of the poet's own invention or it can be a traditional format such as the one I use in my blog on this site. There can be different rhythms in different parts of the poem, as in The Wasteland. To my mind there should just be some sort of design and structure or set of structures, and no other rules really.

Very good!
If I may, I'd like to add something: Poetry is the innovation of language. Using words, language, meter, rhyme, structure, etc., the poet is breaking open the boundaries of thought, and elevating imagination. Structure, rhyme, meter, etc., even the sounds of words, should all be explored by the poet, and used as freely or as strictly as the writer chooses. It's in this way that we find our voice.

Poetry for me must simply come from the heart.
Kind Regards
