I didn't mean to imply that they respond to their customers...

Surely you jest. Ontario Hydro respond? Hydro One respond? Listen, let me tell ya about some poles.....................................

I think these people act the way they do regardless of what you call them. And, incidentally, I have the highest respect for police officers, firefighters and such. I just think that here the term 'guards' (who in this case may well be exceedingly professional, at least one would hope so) was rejected because it definitely sounds 'harsher' and more 'threatening' than 'responder'. All in the interest of softening and even 'emasculating' the language, as dictated by today's PC conventionality...

I think responder is a great term!  I mean, that is actually the first thing they do...respond.... unless they're as inept as most movies show guards here to be at watching the bank of monitors on the screens while the terrorists and Jack Bauer fight it out....guards are almost shown as basically useless or as comic relief - if I were one, I'd be po'd.  Ever noticed how so many terrorist plots involve power plants/stations?  I think it must be because they are easy places to film all that action around...   Anyway here, we call all folks who respond in an emergency - firemen, policemen and ambulances - "first responders". I did get a good giggle out of your post and the description of the PC Canadians....I've always found them to be very nice and friendly, too....didn't know it went to that extreme!

Hilarious post, Nautikos. LOL
I definitely will be remembering that.  We have lots of Security "Responders" around here that never respond when you need them.  LOL

I understand your feelings and respect them. But I must tell you that our troops did not kill anyone until they were attacked. The Afghanistan operation is endorsed by NATO. If we don't want to do our share, we may as well leave NATO...

Naut
Regrettably not only do we "respond" but our Peacekeepers have picked up their weapons and killed people just as any soldier would.  This make me sick.  This was not the intention, agenda, or objective yet there we are mulling around Afghanistan firing guns.  Get the hell out of there, I say, because the plan has run amok and we're not looking too complacent any more... Oh don't get me started.....
