Me?  As if I would do such a thing, TAPS.  Mmm!  Come to think of it, I did see something fluorescing.

I've been worrying about the florescent boogers.  You didn't leave any of them in the pool did you?

My apologies, youngster - it's just that to me being a senior means being over 65.  My winter pool (billiards) league started last week and there are some different opponents this year due to 'natural wastage' as one of the guys called it.  The one I was playing was an ex RCMP officer who decided to retire at 50.   This took me aback, but he explained that his pension was only going to increase by 2% per annum and he wanted to DO things with the rest of his life.

I stopped playing and started with my (as my daughter calls it, aggressive questioning- like asking people about scanning photos)  He's ben bored for 22 years - bored?   How the hell can he be bored?   Me, I'm exhausted!

Good luck with the English Lit, mneme - enjoy.

Not quite a pensioner, that's a while off.. while I'll be culturally-speaking a senior, I'll still be just an 'over-55' (I can't quite take that in... ). So I'll have to wait ten years for the state to support me. Meanwhile I'm in semi-retirement doing my doctorate in English Lit.

LOL, mneme.  Ell will reach her senior year in December and she has been praying for it for years - like you, a pension of sorts but more importantly, free healthcare.  Who would have thought when we were 20 years old that we would actively wish to to be old just for free drugs - no free booze, I notice.

Another well-written anecdote... thanks for the smiles. Like you, I can't tell where the wall is when I do backstroke, so I don't do it.  I also dislike the way water drips on to my face when I pull my arms through the water, but that's just me being a baby.  PS (and I wouldn't tell just anyone this.. next birthday, in about ten days, I'll be a senior. Cheap movie tickets...).

Krisles
I was 70 a month ago today Krisles, so you can safely say I am an old dog - but not yet past it.  After that compliment, I will give you a real salute, and thank you very much.  Your mother sounds like a stubborn, gutsy lady, Krisles.

John
Who said you can't teach an old dog new tricks?!  Not, of course.....before you slam that salute at me....that I'm saying you're an old dog......just using the saying to say WHOA!  I AM IMPRESSED!!!  I've been swimming most of my life, but my mother always had a fear of it and never could....but she wanted to learn to ski, so she would strap on one of those huge orange life jackets, on top of a regular ski belt (all most of us wore in those days)...and ski like a fiend....when she did fall, she was back up before she had time to realize she went under.  I admire anyone who tackles their fears and goes for it.

jacenta
Thank you jacenta; it makes me feel a lot better, knowing that I am not the only daft person in the pool.   I hope your head recovered quicker than mine seems to be recovering.  I have a serious case of bruised ego and brain.

Huh!  You and Bo can't fool me, Whacky.  You just want me to carry on so that you can both have a good laugh.

You have my utmost respect, SoulBuilder.  I keep trying not to fear the water, but it is taking me a looooong time.

When I use the gesture before thinking - a lot - I try to convince people that it is an old Celtic gesture meaning Peace.   Unfortunately nobody seems to believe me, which is why I am so good at the 10 yard sprint.

Well John, you are definitely not a quitter. Eventually, you will be the best swimmer ever.

 Tell Ell, "hi" for me.

ps. Would you feel better if I told you once I was in a motel pool and was floating on my back.  I managed to bang my head on the cement edge.  I didn't realize I was that close to the pools end.

Take care and happy swimming.

The Celtic Salute? Is that some kind of "thank you"?
Can't wait to find out what happens after you cannonball off the deep end. Bubbles, waves, cheers?
