Gosh, I have clients who can buy anything they chose and they are so

miserable. I am a financial manager and in all cases, in twenty-five years of working with clients & their money; the successful ones spent less than they invested and the ones who failed spent more than they made. It was that simple to see from the outside looking in.

I was fortunate enough to marry money once and he was very disappointed in me because the money didn't mean the same to me. I couldn't change how I felt about money (to afford neccesities and otherwise to give) and he couldn't see his value above anything but his money. It was disheartening. He thought his money could afford him a mistress; never understanding what the cost would truly be. Money isn't evil but can be at the root.

Money is something people gladly give you for your services/knowledge they require. Money is something easily attainable when your passion is your work or when you find passion in your work. Money is exchanged for survival needs; food, clothing and selter and to afford other passions outside our work within reason.

I've never known why a mansion was necessary nor a $50,000 automobile or a collection as such. I know money can make you money if you have the knowledge to make money work for you. That is the perfect goal; rather than become a slave to money, become it's master and make money work for you!

Money is the largest tool in the most important law of nature; reciprocity. The compounding of money begins when it is given away, guaranteed a ten-fold return on your dollar! Just my $2 worth! lol

not a bit of it - you are spot-on. Our children grow up taking for granted things we never dreamt of, and it gets harder and harder to teach them the value of money.

When you have a deep money well, you don't have to value everyday
things, or luxuries for that matter. When you work hard for every little thing you have, it is important to you because if it is destroyed or lost, it will take a lot to replace it.  In some Native American clans, it is immoral for one to have wealth and let others go hungry. I suppose some would think this is tantamount to socialism, but I still think it's wrong to sit on a pile of money while others starve.

Walk a mile in my shoes.....

I think it is actually most often, if not always, a matter of the character of the person...after all, the saying isn't that money is the root of all evil...but that the love of money is the root.  I think the view that those with less appreciate it more is somewhat romantic....and that power corrupts, is too cynical.  Cream rises to the top....money or no.  In "olden" times, when the poor didn't have what they were missing rubbed in their faces, perhaps it was easier for them to remain appreciative of what they did have. ....now,not having can lead to resentment, bitterness and a real problem with materialistic worship.  Maybe it's a matter of how many "holes" an individual feels in their life.....and how they try to fill them....with things or feelings, good and/or bad.

My mother talks about how when she was growing up, everyone she knew was pretty much in the same position.....wearing names hadn't even been considered for the young, tv/mags/etc. weren't everywhere flashing the "good life".....and, negative role models weren't really even imagined.....strong and ethical character, not the lack of, was at least publicly and socially the goal.  It's kind of like trying to compare the records of sports figures before and after 'roids!

Okay....yada, yada, yada.....I've obviously been quiet too long....I'm even wordier than before!

Tattered...

we don't really want money...we want what money can bring us. (did I make a major discovery here or what! EUREKA!) LOL

I do agree that...as everything in life... if you don't have to work for it, you'll never apreciate it. That goes for money also I guess. I'm not poor but my dad always taught me that I had to "earn" what I wanted.

But I think focussing too much on money is bad...unless of course you need it to survive.

we didn't have a lot of money growing up
our specail treat was a once a month trip to mcdonalds...I'd not only save the toy but the box...and I'd make houses from the boxes for my paper dolls (made from public restroom paper towels) to live in

Knight, seems sometimes like the more we get the more we want..
what's up with that???.... I think the less fortunate appreciate what they have so much more than we do (usually)....

Quite realistic observations. In many cases advertising and other gimmicks are used to engineer our wanting of things beyond our actual needs and ability to afford. Hence we have increasing credit card debt and a lot of 'garage sales'. And as the rich laugh their way to the bank, the poor and lower-middle class are reading the book of LAMENTATIONS!

Sometimes the rich worry about losing it, becoming misers and penny pinchers in the process.

I think that's often the case - but not always. God, I just read what I typed - I'd make a perfect politician! LOL!
