"I am a professional writer in the "real world" and as such, my views on plagiarism are very rigid. "

Didn't you just agree in someone's comment section last night that blogit IS the "real world", as in "real life"?
Now which one of us are confused?

John ~  You're certainly not one of the dysfunctional carps....if I understand things correctly, you stood on the brink of the abyss, maybe even fell in, clawed your way out of it and are now ready to climb even higher.

If my comments helped you look around and say, "Dang, in the final analysis, this is holding me down" and decided to keep climbing, then congratulations to you.  That's bold and brave action, not cheap and self-serving blather.  Kudos to you!

Of course, no kudos would be complete with some accompanying visual titillation:

Whoops.  Uh, seems I've chosen something from my "Gnaw Off Your Own Arm" folder.  Lemme try that again:

I quite agree with you.  If blogit wishes to be considered a "serious" writing site, they do need to hold users accountable for their actions.  Plagiarism is as serious an offense as it gets when it comes to writing, and their lack of action astounds me.  I do hope you stick around, though.  Open dialogue is invaluable, and you seem willing to honestly discuss issues that many would rather avoid.  That is very respectable.

How could anyone be offended by this post. It speaks the truth. Lately, I have felt that Blogit does not stand up to the name "writing site" (although it's been a stepping stone for me).  There's a lot more warm & fuzzy chat going on than there is creativity.  That being said, there are many unread, very talented people in Blogit but drama unfortunately gets the read...

I have known you since I came here. In the beginning you were the first to give me a helping hand. I am familiar with 'talent theft' as a designer. Sometimes it means your lively-hood and is done by big names and nothing you can do about it. You can sue but you haven't a chance of winning nor enough money to begin. So I hate it! Here on Blogit there are those who have stolen my freedom of speech to the point of turning me in for not liking my thoughts about things. This site, while I like it because of those I like on here, is not just. There are a few people on here who literally throw hate speech around. Two of them have harassed me. Tell me when you see one of my captions or my name show up in those spotlights or random blogs. There are three people on here who keep me to a certain level and everybody is great with that, some have participated in it. I don't buy any of either and people participate in both. This is not made any better by those like you leaving; you with integrity who want a good place to write without persecuting others. So it appears others feel as I that the best thing is for you to stay. The last word is yours!

I fully share your view of plagiarism, and you haven't seen me do much exalting. But I would hope that you would reconsider leaving Blogit. Not only for the selfish reason that I like your writing and would miss it (by the way, do not take my paucity of commenting as lack of interest, I often do not comment at all if to do so would mean having to virtually write a post; I am always reluctant to come out with the 'yeah, great stuff' kind of comment, lol). But also because to leave would be a kind of defeat. And you will have  from me over the next few days!

Such open and true dialogue which used to be the norm until a few months ago, has become rare these days on blogit. I used to call this no 1 blogit a friend at one time....but I found her either copying and expanding on some of my work or sharings, or taking unwelcome liberties with me. The plagiarism was the last straw for me. I no longer deal with her at all. don't leave we need your honesty.

This doesn't mean, however, that I don't think there should be consequences for the wrongdoing. To not hold someone accountable for plagiarism on a so-called "writing" site, is...well...it's just really, really weird. Not to mention the message it sends to others.

You definitely have gotten your point across and have been noted by probably everyone.  If they have not read your blog, how could they not at least see the headlines of your posts which are very self explanatory.  Now you need to stay to point out other problems and further problems of this kind as time goes on.  Not many will do it.  Some will jump on the bandwagon when it is done by someone else and some only watch from a lurking position.  What a lot of people forget is that forgiveness and justice are not synonymous.  There is a lot of forgiveness at Blogit but the justice has been very selective and lacking at times.  The last two times that well-known bloggers were evicted from Blogit (not for plagiarism but for other problems), they were my friends and I had a lot of sympathy for them and I totally forgave them and would love to know how they are doing now and read what they are writing at this time.  But, I agree that their departure from Blogit was the best thing at the time.  As I said, we need people like you to keep us on our toes.  I personally hope you will stay to do that.

Re: Azur, Yes Julia, I took a stand on this issue many times
posting, and reporting to the powers that be, and even at times contacting the original authors so they could tackle plagiarists head on. It was not how I wanted to spend my blogging time and at times I copped a lot of abuse here for my efforts.

Sadly it is has never been any different here. All I am saying about taking the stand of leaving, is that plagiarism is a long-term issue, and on this basis, one should leave Blogit as soon as they arrive. I respect people who will get up and say something. As you can see from the length of the comment, plagiarism is an issue that stirs me.  I have little time to spend here these days so am not so engaged.

Perhaps I too should have left all those years ago when plagiarism and tolerance of plagiarism incensed me here.

I am a very forgiving person, and am always willing to give people another chance.  It may be a fault, but that's me.  However, I am a bit shocked that Blogit hasn't taken more decisive action.  Most respected writing organizations have a strict no-tolerance attitude to plagiarism.  Blogit's lack of action leads me to believe that this is not a "respectable" writing site.  Whatever it ISN'T though, it IS a good networking tool.  I haven't been here long, but I've already met some very interesting people.  I hope you stay, keeping in mind exactly what kind of site this is.  It is a useful site.  If you're looking for a more respectable writing site, I recommend urbis.com - they take issues such as plagiarism more seriously.  You also get serious responses to your posts that offer constructive criticism.  Best of luck to you!

Julia.
I don't think the picture has ever changed at Blogit. There has always been plagiarism and there have always been people who don't recognize it or don't care, or who are completely taken in. I don't know how many times I have seen comments saying good work even when the author has credited an author let alone plagiarized. People being taken in almost bothers me more. Many people do not read closely.

But then there are people who do recognise it and do care. You can take a stand but really you should decide based on what's best for you and what you feel comfortable with. I just ramble a bit here these days, and keep in touch with a few people who have stuck with me and who I stick with over all these years. In other words I do not place anything that I would vaguely think of selling here. But it would be a shame if people feel restricted in expressing themselves.

it's a shame that it had to happen.  I have to give the blogger a little credit though.. at least they fessed up.  But that still doesn't excuse them for what they did.  It was WRONG!  If I was the victim, I would have been furious...I'm sure others would say the same.   I guess it just shows that we are a forgiving community?

All I know is that the blogger who did wrong has lost my support and clicks.  I don't mean to be insensitive, but how do we know it won't happen again?  Like Maggie, I really hope you won't leave over this.  I know it's easier said than done...but try to ignore.  There are a lot more "Honest" bloggers out there to enjoy.
