Thank you very much for your comments, much appreciated.  I have to point out however that there was no reference to souls or memories I am very much a believer that the body merely houses the soul which never dies - the point is just that no matter how you approach the subject - at the moment of bodily death everyone is alone and being bounced out of a nice cosy womb into the glare of those lights cannot be much fun - and of course the journey in between is whatever we make it.

Besides being a twin, myself, and thus I was not alone, on my own scale

of things, babies have their own mothers' voices, music, other voices, even dogs barking and motor vehicle vibrations to keep them company during the first nine months.  Then at birth they still have their mothers very close plus nurses, midwives, and doctor.  No.  We are not alone.  Even death is somewhat ameliorated if you are a writer who can express emotions and concerns and actually gains a following.  Your spirit can live on in others in that way, but there is also a record of you in your loved ones' memories.  I don't want to get into transcendental stuff about the River of Life, but somebody could bring up some music, too. ;-)
