I wish I could share some tips with you but alas I am no writer. :P I can share you points on enjoying the laziness period though. Haha. Anyway, best of luck on the novel.

I've done diagrams and all sorts but what really propels are the
characters. Why not try basing the main characters on some of the most memorable people you've ever met - and give them some extra vices to boot!

I've used a diagram before and it does help. Other things I've used that can keep things ticking along - I collect and sift through pictures from magazines to use them as the basis for characters and places - just as prompts, letting the imagination take over when it's ready. Also, I compile character profiles. These can be useful as stuff like character motivation will lead to an idea for a plot movement later on.

All the tools are no good without the worker though. Sit down and work at it. If nothing comes, keep sitting there until it does. Seems like you're doing fine though.

If you could afford a MAGNOPRO(research in google) and an EMF detector(cell sensor or other) you could pin down the why of  some kinds of living!
