I beleive that that documentary could be right, Waterfalling. People need
something uplifting and directional in their lives and what better god to provide this than one they truly understand?

Saul-relative - I once saw a documentary that said Jesus (God) presented
him/herself to people in different ways, depending on what they were capable of understanding....an evolving/revolving and individuated consciouness certainly appeals to me.

Agreed, dark mistress again. I have always maintained that I couldn't care
less what others beleive as long as those beliefs aren't imposed on another -- especially me...

Religion has been behind every war...I have no problem
tolerating others beliefs so long as they aren't fanatical or overly critical of what I believe...great post

The only difference I see is that I don't see any evangelicals strapping

on bombs and killing themselves in the name of god, Nautikos.  However, I find it is the conflict between the fundamentalists of Christianity and the fundamentalists of Islam that scares me most, not because of what has gone before but for potential for future religious conflict.  Add in that Judaism and evangelical Christianity and Islam all wish to facilitate the end times.  Islam wishes for world dominion.  Jews await a messiah.  Christians await a second coming of their messiah.  Conflict is inevitable among the more extreme.

And I don't even want to talk about what I think of fundamentalist morons attempting to subvert our Constitution to promote and impose their narrow, judgmental and authoritarian morals...

I didn't see that one, but I did watch the episode on Judaism last night, as well as the one on Islam tonight, which was particularly interesting to me, since I have spent a lot of time on Islam over the past year or so, although in the end it didn't really tell me anything new.  And I certainly plan to watch tomorrow's episode on Christians as well.

Now, you probably know that I am an agnostic, or even an atheist if we are talking 'personal God' as per 'revelation', whether in the OT, NT or Koran - but the only one of these three that really scares me is Islam. The Koran and the Hadith form the basis of a violent Islamo-fascism of medieval narrowness and brutality!

If I am forced to chose, give me a Christian fundamentalist bible thumper any day!

Looks like they're getting higher by the day, TAPS. Idiots...

I've just been watching a part of "God's Warriors".  It is a mixture of fascinating, sad, and terrifying to see what a mess humans have made of things.  How high those walls have been built!

Thanks, Soul Builder. Hopefully, my sight will still be as keen for some
time...

saul_relative - I won't be able to watch this. If you happen to post on it
will you let me know, please?

Thank you, Chyrlann.

It seems that fundamentalism is the plague of this century, just as communism and nazism were in the past century.

And they're all based on absolutes.

Will we ever learn?
