Good post, and what you propose is valid, though the way is littered with all manner of contradictions. Sort of a "looking inward in order to see the 'outward' " exercise, or expertly playing two different songs on the piano at the same time, using the harmonic overlaps to segue from melody to melody. You are so right It's all in the head!
