Interesting...
Never ever thought about caboodle in isolation from kit as a stand alone word.

We are nothing if not painfully redundant, we Americans...

Julia, I've always heard this expression..............
Never thought much about it.  Now, when I hear it, I'll think about you and your blog.

Julia - Interesting! I have a friend of whom owns a gift basket business,

and that's what it's called, "Kit 'n Kaboodle".  Have you read, The Word Detective?  You might enjoy him as he writes about the origins of words, expressions, etc.  Told Justi about him just the other day.

Very interesting!
Americanisms (good word) seem to, often times be redundant.

I have never heard of it.

Julia
We've all used the expression but I never really thought about its origin.  It's always fun to find out the meaning behind and old adage or term we throw around loosely.  Thanks!

Pat B--
yes, there have been some very funny parodies of misunderstood song lyrics and tv commercials too. There's one in particular that stands out as the most misunderstood lyric of all time and it's on the tip of my tongue but I can't quite bring it forth. ARRGH, I hate when that happens!

Julia.
There's a TV commercial for a cable TV/internet/phone service provider that features a guy dining in an Asian restaurant. A long bearded elderly Asian guy in traditional garb pushes a cart to his table and offers the diner caboodle. He gladly accepts. The Asian guy aks if he would like "kit" with it. The diner takes that too. The commercial advertises a cable TV/internet/phone service bundle (Queen V and I have it), but when you think about it, you see a guy in an Asian restaurant eating "kitten caboodle." I don't think that's the message they had in mind.

This kitten caboodle thing works especially well on song lyrics...
Sometimes you "hear" something else no matter what they're singing.  Malaprops. I think that's the word for it - using something that sounds similar but has a totally different meanting. Great fun!
